Angela “El Dia” Martinez Dy is a poet + writer, student, educator, and hip-hop femmecee. An original member of isangmahal arts kollective, seminal voices of the Asian American spoken word and performance poetry movement, she later co-founded Youth Speaks Seattle, Seattle’s premier spoken word organization for youth, and served as director from 2005-2009.
Co-creator and primary writer at the Sisters of Resistance blog, Angela has performed on stages across the United States, independently released collections of her music and poetry, and shared with thousands of young people the transformative art of creative writing.
Born and raised in Seattle with her heart in Manila, Philippines, she is currently pursuing a PhD at Nottingham University on intersectionality and Internet entrepreneurship. She is continually developing individual and collaborative projects with an international network.
